PROFESSIONAL SPORTS MASSAGE
Sports massage treatments can be linked to a pre/post sports event and during training treatments, or maintenance of the musculoskeletal apparatus and prevention of issues falling into occupational health and safety sphere.
Sports massage can enhance performance, or promote healing and recovery.
Various techniques can be utilised, such as: shaking, vibration, effleurage, pettrisage, friction, compression, broadening strokes, direct pressure, cross-fiber friction, range of motion, and stretching.
What particular techniques are used depends on timing (if the massage is conducted pre/post event, during training, or recovery) and intentions of the treatment. These can be a warm-up to increase blood flow and stimulate neurological pathways, aid recovery from exertion, increase flexibility, improve strength, or improve posture.
